Gruyère -

I just love the view outside the apartment this morning.
The clouds are even thicker than yesterday.

But it also means we cannot go up the mountains today either. The mountains will have to wait another day.

Sometimes, a perfect day is not the one that you wanted, but one that you ended up being in. Today is that kind of a day.

Its just magical out there.

The clouds and the snow line creates a stark contrast against the vivid green landscape.

Today our route takes us via Bern, Fribourg and Bulle, towards Gruyères.

White with red polka dots are the colours of the Fribourg public transport. The Swiss seem to love painting their public transports, however themselves wear very sombre colours.

The very charming train station of Broc Fabriqué.  That there is no platform as such, seems to give it a rural touch.

The Maison Cailler chocolate factory at Broc Fabrique.

The tour of the chocolate factory nicely covers the history of chocolate making, the various ingredients and a production line, followed by free chocolate tasting. However what I did enjoy most was the amazing atmosphere in the Gruyeres region that particular day, with clouds hanging low over the mountains. Not too cold yet quite cool. Just perfect.

Can you reach for the stars chocolates?

Ahem, its not just the Indians who put the cows on a pedestal?

Next the Gruyère cheese factory with its rows of cheese. But factory visits are not my thing.

I had had enough of factory visits by now and was keen to check out the medieval Gruyères castle.

View from the castle.

The Birthmachine.

The HR Giger museum inside the old town.

The old town of Gruyère.

Gourmet explorations -  Raclette with Gruyères cheese washed down with a glass of Feldschossen. It felt just so right on a cloudy day. I admired the swiss for devising such an easy lunch menu which does not require much cooking, unlike us folks back in India. I would be so happy to adopt!

What better end to a beautiful day, than to get lost in paradise? Much to my delight, while returning back to the hotel, we caught the wrong train and travelled half an hour in the wrong direction. One of the best experiences about travel is to get lost and discover hidden gems.
